Sean McGovern has confirmed that he will make his debut next year in the Milltek Civic Cup, as he joins Area Motorsport for his first season in the TCR Feeder Series.
Sean, son of TCR UK race winner Rod McGovern, will take on his first full season of motorsport outside of Ireland as he steps up to the Civic Cup at the wheel of a brand-new EP3.
Already well established in front-wheel-drive machinery, Sean recently claimed the 2025 Irish National Fiesta Zetec Championship title, building on his runner-up finish the year before.
When assessing his options for 2026, the choice was clear: moving up to the Civic Cup was the logical choice, as it means Sean will take on UK circuits for the first time as he joins one of the most successful squads in the championship’s history.
With testing planned for the new year, the Irish driver is excited to get on the grid and has clear aims for his first season.
“I’m so happy to be on the grid for the 2026 Milltek Civic Cup and can’t wait to get started on my preparations for the new season. Having raced in Ireland so far during my career, I’m looking forward to a full season of racing on tracks around the UK, which will be a new and exciting experience for me,” explained Sean.
“I’m looking to get as much seat time as I can next year to get ahead of the game and prepare myself for the challenge ahead. Working with Area Motorsport is a great starting point, giving me the chance to work towards my aim of ending the year inside the top three of the championship and adding some race winners’ trophies to the cabinet.”
Championship Manager Jack Finlan welcomes Sean to the championship as he becomes the latest in a new wave of drivers to sign up for 2026.
“I’m pleased to see Sean join the Civic Cup for next year, he has already shown previously in his career that he is a contender in Front Wheel Drive tin-tops and has also enjoyed plenty of success in recent seasons,” explained Jack.
“We have already seen a number of drivers join the series from many different and diverse motorsport backgrounds in recent seasons and Sean is the latest driver to carry on that trend as the grid for the 2026 season continues to grow at pace.”
