Dan Thackeray has kicked off his 2023 Milltek Sport Civic Cup campaign in style by securing the first pole position of the season at Snetterton, going fastest during Qualifying on the 300 circuit.
The fifteen-minute session which sets the grid for race one later today, saw 2022 runner-up Morgan Bailey lead the way as he set the early pace around the three-mile circuit.
The MJB Motorsport driver headed the timesheets for over half of the session until Dan Thackeray in his Motion Motorsport Civic EP3 went to the top of the time sheets with three minutes to go.
Thackeray took pole position with a time of 2:09.074 whilst Bailey was unable to provide a challenge after suffering a gearbox issue, claiming second on the grid.
Jack Harding put his Ben Sharpe Racing EP3 into third place ahead of Will Redford (Pro Alloys Racing), the returning Danny Hobson (Area Motorsport) and 2021 Champion Alistair Camp (Pro Alloys Racing) who completed the top three rows of the race one grid.
With a shift in the points system for 2023, the top six drivers now score points in Qualifying, meaning that Thackeray is the early championship leader on six points, Bailey on five points, Harding on four points, Redford on three points, Hobson on two and Camp taking the final point.
The top ten was rounded out by Louie Capozzoli (Area Motorsport), Harvey Caton (Harvey Caton Racing), Max Edmundson (Area Motorsport) and former race winner Ryan Bensley (Pro Alloys Racing).
With all of the field running to Cup class regulations this year, everyone is racing each other and this will make the challenge all the more difficult.
Sam Nicolaou, Leonardo Panayiotou (Area Motorsport), Alex Kite (Pro Alloys Racing), Daniel MacDonald (Ben Sharpe Racing), Jack Ruddell (Wheatley Motorsport), Luke Sargeant (Area Motorsport), Tommy Knight (Area Motorsport), James Ramsden (Corten Miller Motorsport), Adam Jones (Pro Alloys Racing) and Jordan Brennan (Kinetic Motorsport) complete the top twenty places on the gird.
The race one grid is completed by Dave Marshall in the DMR powered by Ka Sales FN2, Adam Kruger (Ben Sharpe Racing), Owen Hillman (Pro Alloys Racing), Nick Charlier (Click Waste Racing), Mark Hughes (DMR powered by Ka Sales FN2), Anthony Gannon (Kinetic Motorsport), Jackson White (Pro Alloys Racing) and Jeff Alden (Matrix Motorsport).
