Alistair “The Champ” Camp reunites with Area Motorsport for 2024

2021 Milltek Sport Civic Cup Champion Alistair Camp has returned to Area Motorsport for the 2024 season.

Now armed with a brand new Civic FN2, “the Champ” is ready to go racing once more, as the 2024 season promises to be the most competitive yet.

Alistair has long been one of the front runners in the Civic Cup, having finished in second place in the overall points standings in 2020, as well as finishing in third place in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Adding to this, Camp took his maiden win in TCR UK last season, winning the second race of the weekend at Donington Park in a Pro Alloys Racing run Hyundai i30 N TCR in what was his second weekend in the championship.

Whilst his 2021 title was won in the iconic Civic EP3, the Derbyshire-based driver now switches to the newer Civic FN2, which Alistair has already tested at both Donington Park and Snetterton Park in the run-up to this year’s Season Launch.

Area Motorsport already boasts a stellar lineup with Camp joining Silverstone race winner Sam Kirkpatrick, multiple TCR Champion Josh Files, two-time TCR UK champion Lewis Kent and 2023 Civic Cup Champion Max Edmundson.

Having driven for Pro Alloys Racing in the championship last year, where he took one victory at Oulton Park and was in the title hunt up until the final race weekend, Alistair is back with a familiar team but with a new car to take to glory.

When he realised it wasn’t possible to make the full-time move to TCR UK, Camp took the chance to return to Area Motorsport, but under certain conditions.

“I didn’t want to keep driving the same thing, so I said the only way I’ll come back is in an FN2. I know I can run at the front but with the newer car, my aim this year is to be the best of the FN2s that are racing in the field,” explained Camp.

“Last year was a very challenging year for me, despite taking the win at Oulton Park, the high point was my race win in TCR UK. The most important lesson I took away from 2023 was that the level of talent and competition was raised in the Civic Cup. This year, it’s all about going back to basics and doing the best I can with the new car.”

Area Motorsport Team Principal Rob Baker welcomed Alistair back into the team.

“Its good to have Alistair back after a year away from the team. After already winning the championship with us in 2021 along with Vice Champion again with us in 2022 he now has a new challenge in his Civic FN2 Cup Car. We’ve been out testing already in the car and whilst promising it does pose a challenge to us all in that it’s racing against EP3 Cup Cars that have been fine-tuned over the past 7-8 years,” explained Rob.

“That being said he’s in the right place, with mountains of data from our EP3 Cup Cars to compare against we can immediately see where improvements need to be made with no guesswork. We’re optimistic and excited with the challenge ahead and hope to get Alistair at the sharp end from the off and progress throughout the season.”
