Silverstone stands ready for the next Milltek Civic Cup Triple header thriller

The Milltek Civic Cup returns to action at Silverstone this weekend (17-18 May) with another big field of cars all set to contest a triple-header at the home of the British Grand Prix. Twenty-five pocket-rocket 230bhp-plus Honda Civics will provide some of the best racing you’ll see anywhere in Rounds 6, 7 and 8 of this year’s championship.

Area Motorsport’s ultra-quick line-up have won four of the five races so far this year, with 2021 champion Alistair Camp making the early running. Driving an FN2 model Civic, Camp won the opening contest at Donington Park in March and has backed that up with three further podium finishes to open a 16-point lead at the top of the standings.

It is Liam McGill who leads the chase in his EP3 model car, winner of the weekend finale at Brands Hatch last month. Lewis Kent (EP3) won the opener there to become the first driver to win twice so far this season. But he was hit by mechanical dramas for the rest of the weekend, which left him slipping fourth in the standings behind team-mate Harvey Caton (EP3).

Young gun Caton has fond memories of Silverstone, having secured his maiden win at the circuit last summer. As for Jake Hewlett (EP3) and teen star Wesley Swain (FN2), a first win of 2025 will be the target this weekend, with all three having scored strongly enough to complete an all-Area top six in the standings.

An inch-perfect drive in the reversed-grid race at Brands Hatch earned Jack Ruddell a maiden Civic Cup victory in his EP3. In doing so, he became the first non-Area Motorsport driver to triumph in 2025. The MJB Motorsport man will aim to keep building on that momentum while stretching his advantage in the Paul Winfield Trophy standings, for rookie racers and other drivers without a podium to their name in previous years.

Also looking to build on strong showings at Brands are the ebullient Dave Marshall (DMR with KA Car Sales) and Motion Motorsport’s Matt Wilkins. Despite being dogged by misfortune aboard his EP3 over the opening weekends, Wilkins has climbed into the top 10 of the points standings and looks to be on the verge of a breakthrough maiden podium.

Wilkins is also a strong contender in the Goodyear Diamond Award, for drivers aged 40 and over, where Marshall’s team-mate Mark Hughes is the defending champion. At the other end of the experience spectrum, teenager Harry England completes DMR’s three-strong squad of FN2-mounted drivers.

The Petters brothers, Daniel and Jamie, are two more to have impressed while battling misfortune in their Team Petters Racing-prepared EP3s. The pair starred with charging drives from the back of the field on day two at Brands. For Jamie, lying 10th in the points, the target must now be to run in the top six on a more regular basis. It seems incredible that Daniel has yet to record a top-six finish but must only be a matter of time.

Will Butt, who has teamed up with fellow privateer Anthony Gannon under the Detail Car Care banner this year, comes to Silverstone on the back of his best ever weekend in the championship last time out. Three feisty drives earned the Welshman a trio of top-12 finishes. The next step would be to break into the top 10 and potentially take advantage of a reversed grid.

Orex driver Charlie Constable has shown a strong turn of speed since switching from the Track Action series this year. He’ll be looking to forget what turned into a wretched Easter weekend at Brands Hatch and return to the form that earned him a seventh place finish on debut at Donington Park.

Privateer Adam Parker is another to have hit the ground running in his Milltek Civic Cup debut season. He lies third in the Paul Winfield Trophy standings, behind Ruddell and Jamie Petters, and is knocking on the door of top-10 finishes overall.

It’s been a rollercoaster ride for Junior Saloons graduate Francisco Howitt who went particularly well at Brands before his weekend began to unravel. Vinna Sport team-mate Charlotte Birch is also due some better fortune.

Ben Sharpe Racing’s teenage rising stars, Jake Renshaw and Aidan Mitchell, are showing plenty of potential, having both qualified in the top 10 already this year. As they hone their racecraft and blend in some consistency, they’re likely to soon become major threats in the Paul Winfield Trophy if not overall.

Former Goodyear Diamond Award winner Simon Welch (Team Squelch EP3) and multiple tin-top champion Graham Ross (GR Motorsport FN2) will be looking to gain ground this weekend with both Adam Jackson and Garry Townsend absent.

Two single-car EP3 entries complete this weekend’s line-up. Stalwart privateer Sam Nicolaou seems able to regularly punch above his weight, while Ben Bateman’s family-run MWB Motorsport outfit continues to learn the ropes on their first season in the category.

Another triple-header weekend kicks off with Qualifying at 0950hrs on Saturday morning. Round 6 of the championship takes place straight after lunch at 1330hrs.

It’s an early start again on Sunday as lights out for Round 7 – the reversed-grid race – is timetabled for 0955hrs. The final action of the weekend is on Sunday afternoon, with Round 8 set to start at 1515hrs.

For those unable to attend the racing in person, all the action will be streamed live – with expert commentary and analysis – on TCR UK’s YouTube channel.
