Josh Files announces Thruxton Civic Cup entry

Race winner Josh Files has confirmed that he will be returning to the Civic Cup next weekend, where he rejoins Area Motorsport.

Josh was a race winner and runner-up to champion and teammate Max Edmundson in 2024 and will be back on the grid during one of the championship’s biggest ever seasons, returning to the Thruxton venue in Hampshire.

The Norfolk-based driver has an impressive CV of Motorsport accomplishments behind him, including being a Multiple TCR champion. However, business commitments meant that Josh took a sabbatical in the 2025 season.

With Max Edmundson already announced for the “Convoy Thruxton” event, this means that Area will be expanding their lineup, which includes Alistair Camp, Wesley Swain, Sean McGovern, Francisco Howitt and Charlie Budd, as they prepare to take on the fastest circuit in the UK in just over a week’s time.

The 2026 meeting offers three races and three chances to get on the podium. Returning in his EP3 Civic, Josh aims to go out and have some fun as he gets back in the racing groove once more, having already enjoyed being on the Civic Cup grid in previous seasons.

“I’m really pleased to say that I’ll be back on the Civic Cup grid for Thruxton. I had a great time racing in the Civic Cup in previous seasons and really enjoyed being a part of one of the friendliest and most competitive paddocks in UK Motorsport,” explained Files.

“I missed being on track last year, and now that the chance has arrived to go racing once more, I couldn’t let that pass. I’m looking forward to getting out there and getting in the mix with such a large and talented grid. I’m back to enjoy myself and have some fun.”

Championship Manager Jack Finlan welcomes the former Civic Cup race winner back on the grid, ahead of next weekend’s triple header event.

“It’s great to see Josh announce his return to the championship, as we prepare for our next event at Thruxton. I know Josh enjoyed his previous outing in a Civic Cup car and often saw this as one of the biggest challenges he’s experienced, so to see him back speaks volumes about the challenge of the Civic Cup itself,” explained Jack.

“The 2026 season enjoyed three terrific races at Brands Hatch last month. Now with the addition of both Josh and Max to the grid, as well as returning to Thruxton for one of its biggest race weekends of the year with such a large and competitive field for the 2026 season, this shows the next step that the Civic Cup has taken as one of the most competitive series in the UK.”
