As rain poured upon the Oulton Park circuit it would be a tricky start to the season for the Milltek Sport Civic Cup. For Bruce Winfield though, the skies would seem clear as he took pole position in the closing laps of a very windy session.
Winfield was one the championship competitors from 2019, though agonisingly never took a victory. The #37 will be looking to rectify that immediately after storming to the front in torrential conditions. His lap of 2:08.020 was 1.188 seconds quicker than his nearest challenger, Andrew Gaugler. The Tegiwa Type R Trophy winner comes into the year with experience in his Civic and could yet prove a dark horse to Winfield during the race.
Jamie Tonks will be one to watch in third ahead of another veteran Paul Taylor who beat experienced race winner Alistair Camp, all lapped within four tenths of each other. Ben Mills qualified sixth from Morgan Bailey who was the final driver under the 2:11 threshold as he looks to move up the grid in 2020.
Chris Coomer is one the only drivers using the FN2 model of Civics and thus could be an unknown quantity to watch for in ninth just behind David Buky. Completing the top ten would be Ross Darlington.
The first race will take place at 15:25 local time (subject to rain delay) and will be shown live courtesy of the BRSCC.
