Simon Welch announces his return to the Milltek Civic Cup for 2026

Simon Welch will make his return to the Milltek Civic Cup next year as he embarks on a historic seventh season in the championship.

The 2023 Goodyear Diamond Award Champion has been working on a different EP3 for next year, following the write-off of his original car at Croft earlier this season.

Simon was in the hunt for the GDA title during the early part of the season, having competed at the first three weekends of the year: Donington Park, Brands Hatch and Silverstone.

Despite missing the second half of the season, Simon has been working hard on the car and is preparing to return to the grid for next year.

Whilst the championship is recognised as one of the toughest club-level, single-make series in the country, there is a great atmosphere in the paddock each weekend. Returning as Team Squelch, Simon is looking forward to the new season.

“2025 was a tough season, but despite this, I was able to go racing and remain competitive. I could see improvements in the car and working on the new car for next year, I’ve made changes that will help me climb further up the grid,” Simon explains.

“I’m working hard to get the car ready for the start of the season. Once that’s complete, I’m excited to go racing once more. As always, I’m chasing the Goodyear Diamond Award title, as well as getting back to enjoying my racing.”

Championship Manager Jack Finlan is pleased to see Simon will be back on the Milltek Civic Cup grid next year.

“Simon has been one of the stalwarts of the Milltek Civic Cup and is a driver who enjoys going racing at weekends, one of the reasons that many people go motor racing. Simon shows the true spirit of racing in the Civic Cup, where it’s possible to win silverware at each event,” explained Jack.

“Having missed the second half of the year was a tough blow for Simon, but he hasn’t given up hope, and his efforts will see him back on the grid in 2026. I wish Simon all the best as he embarks on his seventh year in the championship.”
